DUNDAS, Minn. – For the second time in five days, the top-seeded Farmington Tigers defeated Rochester Century — and this time, it secured a championship. With a 7-0 victory on Wednesday evening at Memorial Field, the Tigers captured the Section 1AAAA title and officially advanced to the MSHSL Class AAAA State Baseball Tournament.
RECAP
After a scoreless first three innings, Farmington broke through in the bottom of the fourth when Brandon Lund laced a triple to right-center and came around to score on a Century miscue. The Tigers blew the game open an inning later with a six-run outburst in the fifth.
Payton Topel started the rally with an RBI single before Ty Beck and Marshall Gordon followed with run-scoring base hits of their own. Jacob Traynor kept the momentum going with an RBI single, and Brodie Gibart delivered the biggest swing of the inning — a two-run triple to the wall in right to cap the scoring and make it 7-0.
Right-hander Joe Baldus was dominant on the mound, tossing a complete-game one-hitter. Baldus struck out eight and walked just two over seven innings, keeping the Century lineup quiet all game long.
