Assistant Coach Seth Krause brings a high-energy, technical approach to the Farmington Boys Swim & Dive program. With a collegiate swimming background and a professional career in technology, Coach Krause combines the grit of a competitive athlete with the analytical mind of a developer to help his swimmers reach their peak potential.
Coach Krause’s coaching style is rooted in his own experience as a multi-stroke specialist. He feels most at home teaching Butterfly, Freestyle, and Backstroke, which served as his primary events throughout his competitive career. While he admits that Breaststroke was never his personal strength, he has dedicated himself to studying its unique mechanics to ensure he can support every swimmer on the team.
Unlike many athletes who rely on a pair of headphones to get in the zone, Coach Krause found his motivation through the energy of the pool deck.
- The Ritual: Rather than listening to music, Seth’s pre-race ritual involved physical activation—smacking his primary muscle groups to increase blood flow and "wake up" his body before stepping onto the blocks.
- The Team: He relied heavily on the support and excitement of his teammates to find his competitive edge.
If given the chance to face off against any legend, he would choose Caeleb Dressel. For Seth, it’s about the perspective—seeing firsthand just how fast the best in the world truly are.
Coach Krause’s perspective on nutrition and recovery was forged through the challenges of collegiate injuries.
He views recovery as a holistic process that involves both the body and the mind:
- Targeted Supplementation: During his college career, he found that Vitamin D was instrumental in managing joint pain and supporting mental health.
- Prehab & Physical Therapy: He is a firm believer in physical therapy and the strengthening of small supporting muscles to prevent injury and enhance performance.
- The Routine: His recovery "must-haves" include foam rolling, consistent stretching, and a high-protein diet.
Of course, not all nutrition has to be clinical. His favorite way to refuel after a big meet? A legendary feast at Olive Garden with his teammates.
By day, Seth is a Software Developer. He is currently exploring ways to bridge his two worlds by developing an app designed specifically for retired swimmers. If he weren't on the pool deck or behind a keyboard, you might find him on the soccer field—a sport he’s always wanted to pursue further since his school days.
