Thirteen of the 2022 Farmington Boys Soccer games were decided by one goal or less. The Tigers (
7-8-2, 4-5 SSC) experienced a marked, immediate improvement under first year head coach,
Thomas Macmillan.
Macmillan's tactical approach to coaching soccer had the Tigers competing in every game of the 2022 season, regardless of the might of their opponents.
The 2022 season came to an end at the hands of Lakeville South for the second year in a row. The difference this year was the drastic improvement in the Farmington program. The 0-1 overtime exit from the 2022 playoffs was a notable difference from the 0-4 loss the Tigers experienced in the 2021 Section 1 AAA Boys Soccer Tournament.Â
Farmington controlled much of the first half of Tuesday night's quarterfinal game with South. In the final few minutes before the half ended, the Tigers put together a flurry of attacks nearly netting the game's first goal. Despite the pressure, Lakeville South managed to keep the game tied 0-0 heading into halftime.
In the second half, it was Lakeville South who managed to keep the Tigers on their heels with a number of shots on goal, one of which hit the post.
Senior keeper,
Alex Giddings, made a series of outstanding second half saves from close range to keep the Tigers in the game.
Farmington managed to hold South scoreless, resulting in a sudden death overtime period.
The Cougars kept the pressure on in the first overtime period and managed to sneak a goal past the Tigers' keeper to end the game.
