Farmington High School
ATHLETES OF THE YEAR (HINS/HAN-LINDEMYER) 2024

Senior Athletes, Cole Han-Lindemyer and Macyn Hins Receive Prestigious Athlete of the Year Award

By Activities Coordinator

The Athlete of the Year Awards are a tradition at Farmington High School that dates back to 1947, when the first Athlete of the Year Award was given to Fred Warweg. In 1975, just three years after Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Farmington High School began recognizing both a Male and a Female athlete of the year.

Winning the "High School Athlete of the Year" award is a prestigious honor that recognizes outstanding athletic performance, leadership, and academic achievements in high school sports at Farmington High School. The criteria for nominating and selecting the Athlete of the Year include:

  1. Seniors Only.
  2. Participate in a MSHSL sanctioned athletics program.
  3. Athletic Performance: Exceptional performance in one or more sports, including statistics, records, and achievements (e.g., championships, MVP awards).
  4. Versatility: Participation and success in multiple sports.
  5. Leadership: Demonstrated leadership qualities both on and off the field, including being a team captain or showing sportsmanship.
  6. Academic Achievement: Maintaining strong academic performance while excelling in sports.
  7. Zero (0) MSHSL Chemical or Code of Conduct Violations.

Activities Director, Keith Badger, had this to say about each of our winners at the Senior Awards and Scholarship Banquet,

I had the pleasure of serving as Macyn’s mentor during her winter athletic season and each time I thought I had come up with something profound to teach her about leadership, I found myself taking notes on the amazing things she was doing as a leader in her program. I am proud to have served as her mentor and am more proud to recognize her as our female athlete of the year..”

“Cole is a tremendous competitor and a state champion, however, the thing I admire most about him is his heart. He became a personal hero for my four boys and every time they had a chance to watch him wrestle, he always made time to get down on a knee, give them a high five, and thank them for coming to watch him compete.”

I’ve had the opportunity to be involved in 3 Farmington High School sports throughout my 4 years at this school. I not only got to extend my career and passion in my sports but create a bond and connection with teammates and coaches in the Farmington community. Being a tiger athlete is something I’ve been blessed to be a part of because I’ve learned how to be a better athlete and more importantly a better person. I’ve learned leadership, responsibility, dedication, accountability, communication skills, and much more that have reflected on and off the field/competition floor. A tiger athlete is putting your best foot forward everyday and not only showing up for yourself but for your team. My goal has always been to be a role model for younger future tiger athletes and leave a good representation of what it’s like to not only be a tiger athlete but a student in Farmington. I’m attending the University of Minnesota Twin Cities in the Fall going into the college of liberal arts for journalism/communication. I'm hoping to become a sports broadcaster or commentator and further my sports career on a different level.

In my 20 plus years coaching HS and club sports Macyn Hins is probably the toughest athlete I’ve ever coached. She is a great competitor and a great leader who helped our program do things that we have never done before.

When Macyn would speak of her goals and envisioned success, it came with such determination and passion. You believed every word.

When I look back on my career at Farmington, I am blessed to have met lifelong friends and mentors, and that I was able to make such a lasting impact in my community. Although this season didn’t end as I had hoped in terms of results, I’m still proud of my effort everyday in practice, and even more for helping those around me achieve their own goals for the season. To me, this is what being a Tiger Athlete means: learning to not only push and teach yourself to be the best version you can be, but to do the same for those around you. I am fortunate enough to have won many tournaments and matches during my time at Farmington, but more important to me are the lessons I was able to teach others (and myself) along the way, whether wrestling related or not. I’m forever grateful for the experiences I’ve had while being a Tiger Athlete, and I hope to carry them with me in the future at Stanford University, where I will pursue my wrestling and academic career.

I feel fortunate to have been able to coach Cole. He is a generational student athlete who excels in the classroom and is an even better person! Cole has earned everything he has achieved through hard work and dedication to his craft. He is a true student of the sport. Cole is a great role model for the future generations of Farmington Student/Athletes.
~ Chad Olson, Assistant Principal FHS and former FHS Head Wrestling Coach
It's been a privilege to watch Cole grow into the young man he has become. He is unique in that he is not only an elite athlete, his character is second to none. He has been a positive influence since he joined the high school team in 8th grade. Other wrestlers look to him for guidance and counsel. He is a leader both on the mat and off. Cole's work ethic and desire to improve academically and athletically are rare and both will serve him well at Stanford. He has embraced the wrestling programs values of grit, discipline, integrity, leadership, and empathy and continually shown that in his decisions and actions. Cole has handled the toughest competition at the state, national, and international level with amazing calm and gratitude. In his senior year, he often spoke to younger teammates about appreciating the journey of growth and having gratitude to be able to wrestle and compete. He is beloved by his teammates and he will be missed very soon. It's a privilege to know him, his brothers, and his family. The support of Farmington Wrestling goes with Cole as he prepares for the next stage of his life and wrestling career.
