Shakopee, Minn. -- In a midweek clash under the lights, the Farmington Tigers tasted their first defeat of the season, succumbing to the Shakopee Sabers with a final score of 6-2 on Wednesday night. The Tigers, now 12-1 on the year, faced a formidable opponent in the Shakopee squad, who proved their mettle early on.
Shakopee wasted no time in asserting their dominance, grabbing an early lead in the bottom of the first inning. Logan Krosch's triple paved the way for Aidan Rau's sacrifice fly, allowing both to cross the plate and give the Sabers an early advantage. The Sabers continued their offensive onslaught in the second inning, capitalizing on a Farmington error to tack on two more runs.
Despite a valiant effort on the mound from Joe Baldus of the Tigers, who battled through four innings and allowed only four runs (two earned) on four hits, Shakopee's Nick Johnson proved to be a formidable adversary. Johnson, a left-handed pitcher for the Sabers, stifled the Tigers' offense, surrendering only two hits and no runs over five innings while striking out five.
Although Dillon Carlson and Marshall Gordon managed to drive in a run each for Farmington, it wasn't enough to overcome Shakopee's well-rounded performance. Jack Morris, occupying the eighth spot in the Sabers' lineup, showcased their depth with a standout performance, leading his team with two hits in three at-bats.
Shakopee's offensive prowess was complemented by their flawless defense, as they didn't commit a single error throughout the game. Charlie Toenges anchored the Sabers' defense with eight chances in the field, ensuring their victory remained secure.
Despite the setback, Farmington looks to bounce back swiftly as they gear up to face the Lakeville North Panthers in their next matchup on Thursday.
