FARMINGTON, Minn. -- The Farmington Tigers boys soccer team secured their first win of the season with a 2-1 victory over the Owatonna Huskies at home on Saturday, September 21, in Tiger Stadium. The win marks an important moment for the Tigers, not only boosting their confidence but also significantly aiding their Section 1AAA seeding.
Farmington came out of the gate strong, with Alek Silenko opening the scoring in under 30 seconds. After winning the ball high up the field, Silenko unleashed a curling shot from distance, beating the Owatonna goalkeeper to give the Tigers an early lead. However, Owatonna responded later in the first half, leveling the match heading into halftime.
The second half saw a competitive back-and-forth battle, but Farmington regained the lead midway through. Jose Ruiz made a brilliant run inside, then delivered a well-disguised pass to Mua Okongo, who drove towards the goal before returning the ball to Ruiz. He calmly slotted it home, giving the Tigers the decisive 2-1 advantage.
This victory caps off a solid week for the Tigers, who also earned a 2-2 tie against North and a 0-0 draw versus Rosemount. The team now looks ahead to their next challenge against Lakeville South on Tuesday, hoping to build on this momentum.
