APPLE VALLEY, Minn. – The Farmington Tigers continued their strong start to the season with a commanding 13-1 win over Eastview on Wednesday afternoon, fueled by a nine-run second inning that broke the game wide open.
RECAP
Farmington jumped out early with a four-run first inning. Ben Keppler drew a bases-loaded walk to open the scoring before Ty Beck ripped a two-run triple and Payton Topel added an RBI single to give the Tigers a quick 4-0 lead.
The Tigers exploded for nine runs in the top of the second, sending 13 batters to the plate. Benny Fenske, Brandon Lund, and Marshall Gordon each delivered RBI singles during the frame. A wild pitch and two hit batters also plated runs, and Gordon capped the inning with a two-run single—his second hit of the inning—to push the lead to 13-0.
On the mound, Joe Baldus was in control from the start. The junior right-hander threw a five-inning complete game, allowing just one hit and one unearned run while striking out three.
Farmington collected 10 hits on the day, with Gordon and Lund leading the way from the heart of the lineup. Gordon finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and Lund added two hits, two RBIs, and a pair of stolen bases. The Tigers also turned a double play and played clean defense to close out the game in five innings.
