FARMINGTON, Minn. – In a key early-season South Suburban Conference showdown, the Farmington Tigers edged Lakeville South 3-2 on Tuesday night at Tiger Field. The win extended Farmington's win streak to six and improved their record to 6-1 overall and a perfect 5-0 in SSC play.
RECAP
Lakeville South struck first, taking a 2-0 lead in the opening inning. Farmington responded in the bottom of the third when Joseph Larson drove in a run with a single to left field, tying the game at two.
With the score still tied in the fifth, the turning point came off the bat of Marshall Gordon. The junior launched a solo home run to left field, giving the Tigers a 3-2 lead that would hold the rest of the way.
Farmington's pitching and defense took over from there. Brodie Gibart earned the win, allowing two runs (one earned) over five innings while striking out three. Connor Stember closed it out in relief to secure the save. The Tigers played a clean game defensively, turning one double play and committing no errors.
Offensively, the bottom of the lineup stepped up in a big way. Payton Topel, Ethan Hagman, and Jacob Traynor combined for four of the team's seven hits and contributed to both early scoring opportunities. Traynor and Topel each finished with two hits, while Gordon, Topel, and Larson drove in a run apiece.
