FARMINGTON, Minn. – In a game defined by dominant pitching and timely hitting, the Farmington Tigers edged the Eagan Wildcats 2-1 on Monday afternoon at Tiger Field. With the win, the Tigers improved to 7-1 on the season and continued their strong start in South Suburban Conference play.
RECAP
Senior pitcher Joe Baldus was outstanding on the mound, tossing a complete game and allowing just three hits and one unearned run while striking out five. The Tigers backed him with strong defense, including a key double play that helped limit Eagan's chances.
Offensively, Payton Topel provided all the scoring Farmington would need. He doubled in the fourth inning to drive in the game's first run, then broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth with a sacrifice fly that brought home the eventual game-winner.
Eagan tied the game briefly in the top of the sixth on a groundout by Theo King, but Baldus shut the door the rest of the way to earn the win.
Topel finished the day 2-for-2 with two RBIs to lead the Tigers at the plate. Farmington totaled four hits in a low-scoring affair where every at-bat mattered.
