FARMINGTON, Minn. – The top-seeded Farmington Tigers opened the MSHSL Section 1AAAA baseball tournament with a decisive 10-0 victory over No. 8 seed Rochester John Marshall in an 11 a.m. Memorial Day matchup at Tiger Field.
RECAP
Farmington jumped ahead early with a run in the first inning before breaking the game open in the fifth. The Tigers scored seven runs in the bottom half of the inning, putting the game out of reach and triggering the 10-run rule.
Brandon Lund started the fifth-inning surge with a sacrifice fly to bring in a run. Brodie Gibart and Isaiah Bramer followed with RBI singles, and walks drawn by Ty Beck and Marshall Gordon plated two more. Jacob Traynor capped the inning with a two-run single to left field, pushing the lead to double digits.
The Tigers added two runs in the second inning on a well-executed at-bat from Joseph Larson, who singled to center after battling through a seven-pitch count to extend the lead to 3-0.
On the mound, Joe Baldus was dominant. The junior starter tossed a five-inning no-hitter, striking out nine while allowing just one walk. Baldus kept the Rockets off balance throughout and was backed by error-free defense, including a double play turned by the infield.
