FARMINGTON, Minn. – On Saturday, May 10th, the Tigers hosted the first annual Tiger Stripe Classic, welcoming a competitive twelve-team field that included the top-ranked Bloomington Jefferson Jaguars.
Pool Play
Farmington opened the tournament bright and early against the #1-ranked Jaguars. Both teams started slow in the 8:00 a.m. match up, with Jefferson edging out the Tigers 25-22 in the first set. The second set was a nail-biter, with the Tigers going point-for-point before ultimately falling 27-29. Jefferson, who would go on to win the tournament, closed the match 2-0.
In their second pool play match, Farmington faced a first-time opponent in Hiawatha Collegiate. Determined to bounce back, the Tigers dominated from the start, winning convincingly in straight sets: 25-7, 25-15.
With a 1-1 record, Farmington secured second place in their pool and advanced to the winner's bracket, where they were matched against Pool B's top finisher, the Prior Lake Lakers.
Winner's Bracket
In a rematch from earlier in the week, the Tigers came out strong against Prior Lake, taking set one 25-21. The Lakers responded with renewed energy, capturing set two 25-20 to force a decisive third. With the score tied 10-10, the Tigers surged ahead, finishing the set 15-10 and the match 2-1 to move into the semifinals.
There, Farmington met another familiar conference rival—Rosemount. The Irish controlled the first set with near-flawless serve receive, winning 25-22. The Tigers regrouped in the second, leading 24-21, but Rosemount stormed back with a 5-0 run to steal the set 26-24 and close out the match 2-0.
Third-Place Match
Following a tough semifinal loss, Farmington faced St. Paul Harding in the third-place match—a team that had swept them earlier in the season. Despite fatigue, the Tigers came out energized, taking the first set 25-16. Refusing to let momentum slip, Farmington maintained their intensity to close out the second set by the same score, winning 2-0 and securing a third-place finish at their home tournament.
