Girls Swimming and Diving Comes Up Just Short at Lakeville South, 93-88

LAKEVILLE, Minn. – The Farmington Tigers girls swimming and diving team put together a strong performance Thursday night at the Blanchard Aquatic Center but came up just short in a 93-88 dual meet loss to the Lakeville South Cougars.

The Tigers opened the varsity meet with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, where the quartet of Micaela Cardoza, Taylor Gergen, Alyssa Bower, and Mikaela Udell clocked in at 2:00.04. Farmington also earned key points with their B relay (Fiona Frick, Parker Risch, Claire Akolly, and Claire Duellman) finishing fourth overall.

Cardoza and Udell led the charge in the 200 freestyle, placing second and third respectively, while Bower captured the Tigers' first event win of the night in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:24.48.

In sprint freestyle action, Gergen (26.51) and Risch (27.17) went 2-4 in the 50-yard freestyle. Udell later returned to place second in the 100-yard freestyle, followed by Akolly and Warmka in fourth and fifth.

Farmington divers swept the varsity podium with Brooke Kunz (145.10), Finn Samuell (144.50), and Claire Gergen (139.10) going 1-2-3 on the 1-meter board to keep the meet tight heading into the back half.

Duellman earned a win in the 500-yard freestyle (5:52.18), while Cardoza, Bower, and Frick combined for 9 points in the 100-yard backstroke. Emma Klose and Leah Warmka added valuable third- and fourth-place finishes in the 100 breaststroke.

Farmington capped the meet with a victory in the 400 freestyle relay, as Gergen, Bower, Udell, and Cardoza teamed up for a 3:50.34 finish. The Tigers also placed second with their B relay to close the five-point margin.

UP NEXT
Farmington returns to the pool on Monday, Sept. 16, when they host Rochester Century at Dodge Middle School. The meet is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
