Perfect Game by Gibart Sends Farmington Past John Marshall in Section 1AAAA Opener

FARMINGTON, Minn. – The Farmington Tigers opened Section 1 Class AAAA postseason play with a 4-0 victory over the Rochester John Marshall Rockets on Memorial Day at Tiger 1 Field. Senior pitcher Brodie Gibart delivered a dominant performance on the mound, throwing a perfect game to help the Tigers advance in the section tournament.

RECAP

Gibart was in control from the opening inning, retiring every batter he faced while striking out the final hitter of the game to secure the perfect game and the Tigers' shutout victory. Farmington's defense backed the effort throughout the afternoon, playing error-free baseball behind the senior right-hander.

The Tigers broke through in the bottom of the third inning when Gibart helped his own cause with an RBI single to give Farmington a 1-0 lead. Farmington added insurance runs later in the game and continued to apply pressure offensively against the Rockets' pitching staff.

Thomas Birkett started on the mound for Rochester John Marshall and worked four innings, allowing one unearned run on two hits while striking out five and walking two.

Farmington's offense was led by Ethan Hagman, who drove in two runs from the eighth spot in the lineup. Hagman finished 1-for-3 at the plate, while Gibart and Matthew Hennen also collected hits for the Tigers.

Defensively, Farmington was steady throughout the contest. Hennen anchored the defense and recorded 18 putouts in the shutout victory.
