Farmington High School Recognizes 2022-23 MSHSL ExCEL Award Winners

Juniors Jacob Kiage and Emma Schabert have been selected as the 2022-23 MSHSL ExCEL Award nominees from Farmington High School.

Emma Schabert has been a member of the girls soccer, girls basketball, and girls track & field teams at FHS. Schabert's activity participation includes National Honor Society, Tigers Serve, academic lettering, student council, Farmington Faith Club, and Puzzle Club. She volunteers her time making tie blankets, present wrapping, bagging groceries at Cub Foods, walking foster dogs, at her church, at the Farmington Food Shelf, and making holiday cards.

"I actually really enjoy volunteering. It is fulfilling and not hard work when you truly understand the impact," said Schabert.

Jacob Kiage has been a member of the boys soccer and boys basketball programs at FHS. His fine arts participation includes choir, concert choir, solo/ensemble, new dimensions choir, and the All-State choir. Kiage volunteers his time cleaning up local parks and at Feed My Starving Children.

"A good leader is welcoming, empowering, honest, and leads by example. They teach with positivity and do not degrade others," said Kiage.

"Farmington High School could not be more proud to have Emma and Jacob represent our school as our MSHSL ExCEL Award nominees. Their participation in our athletics, arts, and activity programs make our school a better place. It is pretty powerful to see the impact they're having in our community as well," said Activities Director Keith Badger.

The ExCEL Award – Excellence in Community, Education and Leadership – is a unique recognition program designed exclusively for Minnesota high school juniors who are active in school activities, leaders in their schools, and who demonstrate a strong commitment to community service. This award is sponsored by the League's corporate partner Wells Fargo.

In order to be eligible for the award, a school's nominees must be juniors, making satisfactory progress towards graduation, participate in a MSHSL fine art and/or athletic activity, hold a leadership position in the school, volunteer in their community, and meet general eligibility guidelines through the MSHSL.

Congratulations to Jacob and Emma!
