United front leads to a great battle in Rochester

The Tigers joined the Spartans in honoring and supporting the Flees family, along with others, in their battle against Brain cancer. A beautiful message by family members and a former Spartan volleyball player brought everyone in the gym together. 

The Spartans ran the court in the first set putting together a quick 8-2 lead before Taylor Hagedorn pounded one to the floor. Little momentum turned as the Spartans forced a Tiger timeout up 11-5, and another at 19-8. The Spartans went on to win the first set handedly 25-14. 

Set two couldn't have been any more different. Back and forth action with no substantial lead for either team until Becca Woody served an ace to put the Tigers up 23-18. The Spartans got a few back but not before Adi Otto put the set winning kill away for a 25-20 Tiger victory. 

With some momentum, Farmington started set 3 with a statement taking an early 9-4 lead and forcing a Spartan timeout. Three errors in a row allowed Mayo to take back the lead 15-14. Hagedorn with another big kill, Woody with a tool at the net, two missed serves by Mayo, and a Hagedorn ace kept the set close but wasn't enough. Mayo won set three 25-21. 

Set four was filled with more back and forth action. With Otto and Hagedorn kills the Tigers were tied 7-7. Momentum shifted as Mayo took a 14-10 lead forcing a timeout. The Spartans stretched their lead to 21-13 but the Tigers weren't done yet. With two kills by Sabrina Caven, Elexis West's ace, Hagedorn's kill, and Sharp's ace the Tigers were in pouncing range down 19-22. Tigers unable to capitalize off more Mayo missed serves led to a 21-25 loss. 

The Tigers were led in kills by Adi Otto with 10, and Sabrina Caven and Taylor Hagedorn with 7 apiece. Roselyn Bot tallied 11 digs while Elexis West accounted for 10. Maddy Dombeck contributed 7 digs and 27 set assists.  

Final Score -  Rochester Mayo defeats Farmington 25-14, 20-25, 25-21, and 25-21.
