Caven and the Tigers Extinguish the Blaze in Burnsville
Burnsville, MN- The Tigers, winning six of their last seven matches including a championship at Wally Wakefield Invite, came right out of the gates against the Blaze leading 3-1 early in set one. They Tigers maintained that lead early, until Burnsville tied the set up 12-12. The Tigers forced a timeout with a three point lead, 18-15. Blaze caught fire after the timeout forcing a Tiger timeout and with 3-0 run from Burnsville. Both teams shared a few missed serves as the game led on. The Tigers were able to secure a first set victory 28-26. Â
After a drag out first set win, the Tigers and Blaze competed to 12-10 with a Farmington lead. From that point on, in set two, the Blaze couldn't hang with Sabrina Caven and the Tigers as they took set two, 25-15.Â
Burnsville responded right away in set three, leading 6-4. Farmington had a run of their own resulting in a Blaze timeout, up 12-9. A few points back and forth, until another Tiger ran with a lead of 17-13. Burnsville used their last timeout and forced a Tiger missed serve to start a run of their own. The Blaze on a 4-1 run resulted in a Farmington timeout with a lead of 18-17. The Tigers pushed through, winning set three 25-21.Â
The Tigers were led defensively by Elexis West with 19 digs while Mya Sharp had 8. Sabrina Caven had a night, leading the Tigers with 13 kills. Addison Otto had 10, Taylor Hagedorn with 6, Becca Woody with 5 and Maddy Dombeck with 4. Dombeck contributed 31 set assists in just three sets.Â
Final Score - Farmington defeats Burnsville; 28-26, 25-15, and 25-21.
