Farmington Girls Cross Country Continues Dominance with Grit, Teamwork, and Legacy

Cowbell Classic, 2023

In the world of cross country, dedication and resilience are non-negotiable. Farmington High School's girls' cross country team embodies this spirit, consistently achieving results that rival much larger teams. Under the guidance of Adam and Lisa Lippold, the Tigers have carved out a reputation as a powerhouse, demonstrating that a small team with a big heart can indeed compete at the highest levels.

The Tigers' recent success reached another milestone on October 24, as they captured their eighth consecutive Section 1 Class AAA title, adding to an already impressive legacy. In the past several seasons, Farmington has remained consistently at the top, winning numerous section and conference titles. Here’s a look at the team’s outstanding record over recent years:

  • 2024 – Section 1 Class AAA Champions
  • 2023 – Section 1 Class AAA Champions; SSC Runner-Up
  • 2022 – Section 1 Class AAA Champions; SSC Runner-Up
  • 2021 – Section 1 Class AAA Champions; SSC Runner-Up

In addition to their state and conference successes, runners from Farmington have consistently earned a place among the top teams in the Midwest, being ranked in the Nike Heartland All Region each of the last seven years. This recognition places them among the top 20 teams in the six-state region of Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin, North Dakota, and South Dakota.

Coach Lippold attributes this success to the team’s rigorous commitment to both physical and mental preparation.

Racing the 5k can be unpredictable. Our ladies understand that if they stay committed to their nutrition, recovery, and training, they’ll be ready when it matters most.

The team’s legacy of excellence began with the Class of 2021, which included standout runners like Anna Fenske, Laura McGregor, Maleah Scott, and Sophia Taarud. Their determination set a high bar that was carried forward by the Class of 2024—Mariah Fenske, Mackenzy Lippold, and Mari Scott—and now continues with today’s runners, all of whom are equally driven to maintain the team’s high standards.

This tradition of achievement is also made possible by strong family and community support, which Coach Lippold emphasizes. “Our families are integral to this team,” she explains. “They’re always there, providing team meals, organizing post-race breakfasts, and helping with team events. It’s these shared experiences that really strengthen the bond between our athletes, making them more than just teammates.”

With runners of all abilities welcomed—whether they’re racing to break 17 minutes or working to run under 30—the Tigers cross country team is open to any girl who’s willing to give distance running a try. For those who join, the rewards extend far beyond medals and trophies; it’s about discovering personal resilience, building lasting friendships, and contributing to a legacy of excellence that is as strong as ever.

The Farmington girls team added another layer to their legacy finishing 10th as a team at the 2024 MSHSL Class AAA State Cross Country Meet on Saturday, November 2 at the University of Minnesota's Les Bolstad Golf Course.
