OWATONNA, Minn. – The Farmington cross country teams turned in strong performances at the Section 1AAA championships on Thursday at Brooktree Golf Course, with the girls claiming the team title for the ninth consecutive season and the boys finishing third overall in a tight team race.
The win advances the entire girls team to the state meet, while three individuals from the boys team — Carter Lippold, Patrick Carroll, and Adam Johnson — qualified as individuals with top-six finishes.
Girls varsity recap – 1st place (58 points)
Farmington's girls team continued its dominance in Section 1AAA, placing all five scoring runners in the top 21. Junior Lauren Lansing led from the front, winning the race in a personal-best 17:58.0. Eighth-grader Shelby Carroll followed with a personal-best time of 19:24.8 to finish fifth.
Mia Tooley (14th, 20:00.1), Mara Brock (17th, 20:05.8), and Lillian Reuss (21st, 20:19.0) completed the scoring five, each contributing key points to help Farmington edge out the competition for the title. Senior Sophia Venning (29th) and eighth-grader Charlotte Spolarich (36th) also ran strong races to support the team's depth.
Boys varsity recap – 3rd place (61 points)
The boys team placed third overall in one of the closest team battles of the day. Sophomore Carter Lippold led the Tigers with a third-place finish in a personal-best time of 15:42.7. Seniors Patrick Carroll (fifth, 16:06.3) and Adam Johnson (sixth, 16:07.2) followed close behind, also running personal bests and securing individual state berths.
Derek Sullivan (18th, 16:52.6) and Evan Buss (29th, 17:15.6) rounded out the scoring five for the Tigers. Kieran Willenbring (36th) and Aidan Gillespie (44th) also contributed to Farmington's strong third-place finish, just four points out of second place.

The Farmington girls team and individual boys qualifiers Carter Lippold, Patrick Carroll, and Adam Johnson will compete in the MSHSL Class AAA state cross country meet on Friday, November 1 at the Les Bolstad Golf Course at the University of Minnesota. The Class AAA boys race begins at 2:30 p.m., followed by the girls race at 3:15 p.m.
