Rochester, Minn. -- For the first time since 1937, the Farmington Tigers boys basketball team is headed to the MSHSL State Tournament.
In a highly anticipated clash at the Rochester Mayo Civic Arena, the Farmington Tigers squared off against the Lakeville North Panthers in the Section 1 Class AAAA boys basketball championship showdown on Friday, March 15.
The Tigers stormed out of the gate with an early surge, but the #1 seeded Panthers flexed their muscles, mounting a commanding 10-point lead midway through the first half. Undeterred by the deficit, Farmington showed grit and determination, battling back to earn the lead, 31-30, with 2:50 remaining in the half. The two teams would slug out the remaining minutes of the half and head to the locker room with the score knotted at 35 at the break.
The second half saw Farmington come out of the locker room inspired, led by the sensational performance of junior standout Ryan Beckwith.
Beckwith ignited the Tigers' offense, pouring in an incredible 26 points throughout the contest. With a combination of precision shooting and aggressive drives to the basket, Beckwith propelled Farmington to seize control of the game. The Tigers' defensive intensity also intensified, stifling Lakeville North's offensive efforts and limiting their scoring opportunities.
