Rochester, Minn. -- In the opening round of Section 1 AA boys tennis action, the #11 seeded Farmington Tigers faced a tough challenge against the #6 seeded Rochester Century Panthers.
Unfortunately for Farmington, their team season reached its conclusion with a loss to the Panthers. The individual portion of the tournament is set to commence on Tuesday, May 21 at Lakeville South High School.
In singles play, the Rochester Century Panthers dominated each matchup, claiming victory in straight sets across the board. Riley Watson of Farmington battled against Karthik Anand, but ultimately succumbed to a 6-1, 6-2 defeat in the first singles slot.
Aiden Harer and Tyler West, representing Farmington in the second and third singles positions respectively, faced similar outcomes, falling 6-0, 6-0 to their Rochester Century counterparts. Jayden Syvilayvanh fought valiantly but couldn't overcome Riwaj Gurung, who secured another 6-0, 6-0 win for the Panthers.
In doubles action, the trend continued with Rochester Century showcasing their strength. The team of Dylan Henriksen and Josh Stoneburg from Farmington faced a formidable duo in Mahadev Krishnan and Jason Zheng. Despite their efforts, the pair was unable to clinch a victory, conceding the match 6-0, 6-1.
Similarly, the pairs of Gavin Andrews and Noah Batterman, as well as Ben Monson and Lucas Deplazes, representing Farmington in the second and third doubles flights respectively, encountered tough opposition from the Panthers. Both Farmington teams fell short, with Rochester Century sealing the victories in straight sets.
With the conclusion of this match, Farmington's team season concludes, while individual players now turn their focus to the upcoming individual tournament at Lakeville South High School on May 21st.
