EAGAN, Minn. – On Dec. 5-6, 2025, Farmington High School's JV and Novice debaters competed at the JV/Novice State Debate Tournament held at Eagan High School. The weekend marked a strong capstone moment for the Tigers' JV/Novice season.
RECAP
In the Novice B division, the teams of Grace Nelson and Masha Nedrega, along with Victoria Laguer and Loe King, both advanced to the double octafinal round of competition. They lost close decisions in both of their octafinal rounds and finished the season among the top Novice teams in the state.
Individually, in a field of 73 novice debaters, Laguer finished as 15th speaker and King was 18th speaker. Eighth grader Summer Langer also earned an impressive 29th place speaker ranking. The team of Langer and Serah Nyakundi closed the tournament with personal best performances.
In the highly competitive Junior Varsity Division, Jonathan Alem, Cheyenne Twite, Amiee Asanga, and Naomi Mamo represented Farmington with strong rounds against difficult opponents.
