Boys Golf traveled to The Jewel Golf Club on Tuesday, May 31 for round one of the MSHSL Section 1 AAA Boys Golf Tournament. After one round of golfing, the Tigers are sitting in 4th place as a team with a score of 308.
Lakeville North and Albert Lea lead the field at 305 and Northfield has a round one team score of 306.
Junior Kyler Schwamb (72) lead the Tigers with a strong round one performance. Schwamb's pairing for the day included #1 ranked Nate Stevens (70) of Northfield and Lakeville North's Evan Raiche (80). Schwamb birdied holes one and eight, and bogeyed holes nine, fourteen, and fifteen. He parred the remainder of the course. His score has him in 4th place overall in the tournament.
Junior Zach Rouleau (78) golfed the number 2 position for the Tigers. Rouleau finished strong with back-to-back birdies on holes sixteen and seventeen.
Freshman Cale Thompson (77), playing in the Tigers' number 3 position, earned a 2nd place finish on the team in round one. Thompson had the most success on the back nine, earning birdies on holes twelve and fourteen.
Senior Will Bassett (88) sunk par on six of the holes he played Tuesday. Senior Dylan Olson (81) would finish his round in 4th on the team. Senior Joey Johnson (89) placed 6th on the team.
The Tigers have advanced and will return to The Jewel on Wednesday, June 1 to compete in round two of Section 1 AAA play. Farmington tees of with Faribault and Rochester Mayo at 9:10 am.
The top team and top five individuals will advance on the to MSHSL State Meet held on June 14-15 at Bunker Hills in Coon Rapids, MN. Weather on Wednesday is expected to be sunny and 71 degrees.
