Farmington Boys Hockey (
3-13, 1-8 SSC) took the Hastings Raiders (
10-5-1, 3-3) down to the wire eventually losing 3-2.
Hastings wasted no time building a lead over Farmington scoring two goals in the game's first period. Blake Vandehoef scored on the power play at 8:22 followed by an even strength goal from the Raiders' Sawyer Zaruba.
In the second period, Hastings tacked on a third goal when Charles Williams found the back of the net to earn a 3-0 lead for the Raiders headed into the second break.
An inspired Farmington team took the ice in the game's final frame.
Evrett Bennett scored the Tigers' first goal at 4:29 assisted by
Jacob Miller. Shortly after Bennett's goal,
Kyler Schwamb scored his 5th goal of the season after returning from an injury.Â
Hastings called a timeout after the Tigers' second goal in an effort to regain control of the game.Â
With just over 2:00 remaining in the game, Farmington would pull goalie
Mitch Getting and get the extra skater on the ice.Â
Despite the Tigers' best effort, they could not score the game-tying goal.
