Farmington, Minn. -- In a decisive boys hockey matchup on December 22 at Schmitz-Maki Arena, the Farmington Tigers secured their first win of the season, dominating the Rochester Mayo Spartans with an impressive 8-1 victory. This crucial Section 1AA game also marked Senior Night for the Tigers.
In the first period, Farmington's #11 Jacob Miller opened the floodgates, netting an even-strength goal at the 8:01 mark, with an assist from #22 Jackson Donahue. Shortly after, at 8:29, #2 Drake Anderson extended the lead, finding the back of the net with assistance from #4 Samuel Bridgeman and #9 Kellen Conway.
The Tigers continued their offensive onslaught in the second period. Jacob Miller notched his second goal at 1:48, assisted by Jackson Donahue and #19 Jack Budde. Budde then capitalized on a power-play opportunity at the 3:00 mark, with helpers from Bridgeman and Conway. Despite a power-play response from Rochester Mayo's #22 Mikkel Norby at 5:40, Farmington maintained control. Anderson added another power-play goal at 9:06, and subsequent even-strength goals from Anderson, Donahue, and #23 Dalton Kesti further widened the gap.
As the final period rolled in, both teams were held scoreless, capping off Farmington's resounding 8-1 triumph. The Tigers showcased an efficient power play, converting on 40% of their opportunities, while Mayo managed a 25% success rate.
