Farmington Tigers Unable to Replicate Overtime Success, Fall 4-0 to Lakeville South Cougars

Farmington, Minn. -- In a rematch at Schmitz-Maki Arena in Farmington, the Farmington Tigers faced a tough challenge against the Lakeville South Cougars, ultimately succumbing to a 4-0 defeat on Thursday, January 11. Despite a previous 4-3 overtime victory over the Cougars on November 21, the Tigers couldn't replicate their earlier success.

The game unfolded with a tight defensive battle in the first period, resulting in a scoreless deadlock. However, Lakeville South surged ahead in the second period, capitalizing on power plays and even-strength opportunities. Brynn O'Neill broke the deadlock on a power play at 4:45, with Lilly Hunst and Nicole McKinney providing the assists. Hunst extended the lead at 8:30 with an even-strength goal, assisted by Sophia Kuhns. The Cougars strengthened their position with another power-play goal at 14:50, courtesy of Lilly Hunst, assisted by Nicole McKinney and Ella Fowler.

Entering the third period trailing 3-0, the Farmington Tigers struggled to mount a comeback. Lakeville South sealed the victory with an additional even-strength goal at 8:25, as Ella Fowler found the net, with Josie Grossman credited with the assist. The final score stood at Lakeville South 4, Farmington 0.

Analyzing the overall performance, Lakeville South displayed efficiency on power plays, converting 40%, while Farmington remained unsuccessful on all three power-play opportunities. Shots on goal favored Lakeville South with 26 attempts, compared to Farmington's 17. Penalties were distributed, with Lakeville South accumulating 8 minutes on 4 infractions, and Farmington receiving 10 minutes on 5 infractions.
