Apple Valley, Minn. -- In a SSC boys hockey clash, Farmington High School secured their fourth victory of the season and clinched their first South Suburban Conference win by narrowly defeating Apple Valley/Burnsville 5-4 on Saturday, January 6, at the Apple Valley Sports Arena.
The opening period set the tone for an action-packed contest, with Farmington taking an early lead on a power-play goal by Evrett Bennett, assisted by Jackson Donahue and Kellen Conway. However, Apple Valley/Burnsville swiftly responded, notching two goals courtesy of Eli Wells and Nolan Mickleson. Farmington's Drake Anderson showcased his scoring abilities, contributing two goals before the first period concluded, securing a 3-2 lead for the Tigers.
The second period witnessed Apple Valley/Burnsville's Dylan Otten leveling the score with a well-executed even-strength goal. The intensity escalated as both teams battled for control, but neither managed to find the back of the net during the second frame, keeping the score tied at 3-3.
The final period proved to be a dramatic showdown. Farmington's Brandon Risch broke the deadlock with an even-strength goal, assisted by Jack Rosa and Andrew Rowe. As the clock winded down, Jacob Miller sealed the victory for Farmington with an empty-net goal. Apple Valley/Burnsville mounted a late surge with another goal from Eli Wells, but Farmington held on for the 5-4 triumph.
