OWATONNA, Minn. – The Farmington Tigers girls hockey team opened their season with a commanding 7-2 victory over the Owatonna Huskies on Saturday at the Steele County Four Seasons Centre. Facing a Section 1 AA opponent, the Tigers took control early and never looked back, marking a strong start to the 2024-25 campaign.

Farmington jumped on the scoreboard just over three minutes into the game when Amelia Goblirsch found the net on an even-strength goal, assisted by Josey Empey and Norah Kratz. The Tigers added to their lead at 11:19 in the first period with a goal from Taylor Risch, assisted by Lexi Giller, putting Farmington ahead 2-1 by the end of the first.
In the second period, Farmington's offense took over, with Goblirsch scoring her second goal just four minutes in, assisted by Risch. Payton Blom followed with a goal at 9:08, set up by Jenna Goblirsch and Amelia Goblirsch. Less than two minutes later, Paige Johnson scored, assisted by Risch, to stretch the Tigers' lead to 5-1. Owatonna added a goal late in the period, making it 5-2 heading into the third.
Farmington continued to press in the final period. Amelia Goblirsch completed her hat trick at 3:20, assisted by Jenna Goblirsch, securing a 6-2 lead. Layla Garofalo put the final touch on the game with an empty-net goal at 16:41, sealing the 7-2 victory for the Tigers.
