SHAKOPEE, Minn. – The Farmington Tigers girls hockey team improved to 2-0 on the season and picked up their first South Suburban Conference win with a 5-3 victory over the Shakopee Sabers on Saturday night. A balanced attack and clutch third-period play helped the Tigers seal the win at the Shakopee Ice Arena.
RECAP
Farmington struck early in the first period when Amelia Goblirsch opened the scoring at 10:00 on an even-strength goal assisted by Jenna Goblirsch and Kennedy Meier. The Tigers doubled their lead at 12:30 with a goal from Paige Johnson, set up by Taylor Risch and Lexi Giller, giving them a 2-0 edge heading into the second period.
Shakopee mounted a comeback in the second, scoring early to cut the Tigers' lead in half. However, Farmington responded on the power play, with Johnson netting her second goal of the night at 5:51 off an assist from Giller. The Sabers answered back with two goals to tie the game at 3-3 by the end of the second period.
In the third, the Tigers took control. At 7:13, Jenna Goblirsch capitalized on an even-strength opportunity, assisted by Amara Zens and Josey Empey, to give Farmington a 4-3 lead. Goblirsch secured the win with her second goal of the game, an empty-netter with just over three minutes remaining, assisted by Payton Blom.
