APPLE VALLEY, Minn. – The Farmington Tigers girls hockey team improved to 3-0 on the season and 2-0 in South Suburban Conference play with a decisive 5-1 victory over the previously unbeaten Apple Valley Eagles on Tuesday night at the Apple Valley Sports Arena. The Tigers pulled away late in the third period with three quick goals to seal the win.
RECAP
Farmington wasted no time establishing control, scoring twice in the first period. Jenna Goblirsch opened the scoring at 8:07 with a power-play goal, assisted by Payton Blom and Kennedy Meier. At 14:16, Blom doubled the Tigers' lead with an even-strength goal, set up by Goblirsch, giving Farmington a 2-0 advantage heading into the second.
Apple Valley fought back in the second period with a short-handed goal to cut the lead to 2-1, but Farmington's defense and goaltending kept the Eagles from gaining further momentum.
The Tigers broke the game wide open in the third period. Goblirsch scored her second goal of the night at 13:40, assisted by Blom and Lexi Giller, to extend the lead to 3-1. Just 29 seconds later, Goblirsch completed her hat trick with another power-play goal, assisted by Blom. Farmington capped off the scoring at 14:54 with a power-play goal from Paige Johnson, assisted by Amara Zens and Giller.
