St. Paul, Minn. -- In the MSHSL Class AAAA boys basketball state tournament's consolation championship game, the #4 seeded Farmington Tigers faced a championship-level opponent in the #2 Park Center Pirates.
The game was characterized by a fast-paced and physical style, with referees notably calling few fouls throughout. Despite a valiant effort, the Tigers found themselves trailing early in the contest, with Park Center establishing a lead of 44-37 by halftime. The second half saw Farmington battling to narrow the gap, but the Pirates maintained their offensive pressure, ultimately securing a 90-76 victory.
Farmington's offensive efforts were led by seniors Tyler Beckwith, Liam Roche, and Brandon Hrncir, who each contributed to the team's scoring efforts with 18, 6, and 16 points respectively. Additionally, Cole Wilcek added 11 points, while Nik Domier and Justin Stoneburg chipped in with 8 and 7 points respectively. Despite their scoring contributions, the Tigers couldn't overcome Park Center's relentless attack.
The 2023-24 Farmington Tigers' season stands as a testament to their resilience and skill, as they made history and raised the standard for boys basketball at Farmington High School. The team earned the most wins in a single season in school history and advanced to the MSHSL State Tournament for the first time since 1937.Â
