FARMINGTON, Minn. – The Farmington High School girls hockey team earned its third straight win to open the season with a 7-1 home victory over South Suburban Conference foe Shakopee on Tuesday night at Schmitz-Maki Arena. The Tigers improved to 3-0 overall and 2-1 in league play.
RECAP
Farmington wasted little time grabbing control of the game. Jenna Goblirsch opened the scoring at the 6:00 mark of the first period on an even-strength goal assisted by Amelia Goblirsch and Taylor Risch. Just under three minutes later, the same trio connected again, this time on the power play, as Jenna netted her second goal of the night to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead after one.
Shakopee responded early in the second period with a power-play goal from Addisyn Stevens, but Farmington answered quickly. Taylor Risch scored an even-strength goal less than a minute later, assisted by Amelia and Jenna Goblirsch. Amelia then added a shorthanded goal midway through the period before Jenna completed the hat trick at the 14:56 mark, giving Farmington a 5-1 lead heading into the third.
The Tigers closed out the scoring with two more in the final period. Jenna scored her fourth of the night at 7:35 and Amelia added her second goal with under three minutes to play. Farmington outshot Shakopee 83-13 and held the Sabers to just one goal on six power-play opportunities.
