FARMINGTON, Minn. – In a matchup with both conference and postseason implications, the Farmington Tigers girls hockey team controlled play from start to finish in a 4-1 victory over Lakeville North on Tuesday night at Schmitz-Maki Arena. The win improves the Tigers to 6-2-1 overall and keeps them unbeaten in South Suburban Conference play at 5-0-1.
RECAP
From the opening puck drop, Farmington dictated the pace, outshooting the Panthers 29-19 and never trailing in the contest. Lexi Giller opened the scoring late in the first period, finishing off a setup from Addison Trapp and Ryann Bengston to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
Farmington extended its lead early in the second as Jenna Goblirsch scored on an even-strength goal assisted by Josey Empey and Makena Underwood. Lakeville North responded to make it a 2-1 game, but it was all Tigers from there.
Giller netted her second of the night just 38 seconds into the third period on the power play, with assists from Payton Blom and Taylor Risch. Amelia Goblirsch added an insurance goal with under a minute remaining to cap the 4-1 win.
Makena Underwood was sharp in net, turning aside 18 of 19 shots for a .947 save percentage.
