FARMINGTON, Minn. – For the first time in over 20 years, the Farmington Tigers boys hockey team has opened the season 3-0, following a thrilling 6-5 overtime victory over Eagan on Saturday night at Schmitz-Maki Arena.
RECAP
After trailing 2-1 following the first period, Farmington exploded for four goals in the second to take a 5-3 lead into the third. Eagan rallied with two quick goals to open the final frame, tying the game at 5-5 just two minutes in. Neither team could find the winner in regulation, sending the game to overtime.
At 3:30 of the extra session, Leyton Grant delivered the game-winner for the Tigers on an even-strength goal to complete the dramatic home victory.
Farmington outshot the Wildcats 42-35 and capitalized on its lone power-play opportunity. Eagan finished 0-for-1 on the man advantage. Chris Bade made 30 saves in net for the Tigers.
