FARMINGTON, Minn. – The Farmington Tigers and Eagan Wildcats battled to a 1-1 overtime tie on Friday night at Schmitz-Maki Arena in a South Suburban Conference matchup that showcased strong goaltending and special teams on both sides. With the result, the Tigers remain unbeaten in league play at 4-0-1 and move to 5-2-1 overall, standing as the only team in the SSC without a conference loss.
RECAP
Farmington struck early in the first period when sophomore forward Payton Blom found the back of the net at 3:07, converting off a crisp setup from Ryann Bengston and Lexi Giller. The Tigers controlled much of the opening frame, generating nine shots to Eagan's 10, and taking a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
The Wildcats responded midway through the second period on a power play opportunity. Erica Lorence capitalized with a goal at 6:00, assisted by Lauryn Murray and Chloe Stokes, tying the game at 1-1. Despite a pair of power play chances in the game, Farmington was unable to convert, while Eagan went 1-for-1 with the advantage.
Farmington dominated possession in the third period and overtime, outshooting Eagan 24-6 across the final two frames, but could not solve Eagan goaltender Alice Whitehead, who finished with 43 saves on 44 shots. The Tigers' Makena Underwood was equally solid, stopping 21 of 22 shots in the tie.
