LAKE CITY, Minn. – The Farmington girls wrestling team turned in a strong performance at the Lake City Girls Invitational on Friday, December 5, highlighted by individual championships from eighth-grader Lilly Stevens at 112 pounds and junior Alexandra Thovson at 124 pounds.

RECAP
Stevens was dominant in the 112-pound gold bracket, earning three first-period pins on her way to the title. She opened the tournament with a 34-second fall over Kira Poellinger of Hastings, followed by a 1:12 pin against Ava Butson of St. Charles. In the championship bout, Stevens secured the win with a 26-second fall over Darriyanah Kelly of Hastings to finish the day 3-0.

Thovson also remained unbeaten on the season, improving to 6-0 with a trio of wins in the 124-pound gold bracket. She recorded a 1:42 fall over Emily Nelson of Stewartville in the opening round and pinned Tahli Meyer of Lake City in 1:18 during the semifinals. Thovson received a bye in the championship round to claim the title.

Farmington also saw a strong showing from freshman Kennedi Lazaretti at 155 pounds. Lazaretti battled through the bronze bracket, earning two pinfall victories, including a fall over Hannah Montalvo of Rochester Mayo in 3:09. She finished fourth after dropping her final match to Brenna Nigon of Byron late in the third period.

At 235 pounds, eighth-grader Sophia Graham advanced to the gold bracket semifinal with a pin in her opening bout and a bye in the second round. She finished as runner-up, falling to Miya Ebling of Pine Island in 32 seconds in the final.

Junior Kylie Goodreau picked up a win in the 118-pound silver bracket, pinning Maci Murphy of St. Charles in 1:38. She later dropped two matches by fall.

Also competing for Farmington was Serenity Rose Halverson, who wrestled twice at 148 pounds in the gold bracket.

The Tigers return to the mat on Saturday, Dec. 6, for an invitational at Woodbury High School.
