ROCHESTER, Minn. – The Farmington High School girls wrestling team delivered a standout performance at the Section Tournament held Friday, Feb. 6, and Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Mayo Civic Center. With two section champions and a total of three state qualifiers, the Tigers made history during a weekend that highlighted both talent and depth across the roster.
In only her first year on the mat, Kennedi Lazaretti secured her first trip to the state tournament with a strong run at 142 pounds. After pinning her quarterfinal opponent in just 1:40, Lazaretti advanced to the semifinals where she was edged out by fall. Still, her early wins proved enough to clinch a top-two finish and a spot in the MSHSL State Girls Wrestling Championships.
At 118 pounds, Lex Thovson made school history by becoming Farmington's first-ever girls section champion, pinning all four of her opponents on the way to the title. Her championship match win came in just 58 seconds, capping off a dominant tournament where she also registered falls in 0:29, 0:33, and 2:49.
Farmington's second state qualifier came at 190 pounds, where Sophia Graham claimed the section title to become the second state qualifier in program history. Her championship run continues an upward trajectory for the Tigers' upper-weight program.
Three more Farmington wrestlers finished on the podium, further underscoring the team's depth and competitive fire.
At 136 pounds, Serenity Rose Halverson earned a third-place finish. After a semifinal loss, Halverson responded with back-to-back pins to close her tournament strong. Her final fall came in 5:27 over a familiar opponent from the quarterfinal round.
Lilly Stevens took fourth at 112 pounds, opening her tournament with a tech fall win before rattling off a pair of pins in the consolation rounds. She reached the third-place match, where she was ultimately stopped by tech fall.
Kylie Goodreau placed fifth at 124 pounds, battling back from a first-round loss to win four of her next five matches, all by pin. She capped her run with a 1:24 fall in the fifth-place match.
