ST. PAUL, Minn. – The No. 8-seeded Farmington Tigers put forth a valiant effort against the top-seeded Edina Hornets in the MSHSL Class AA Girls Hockey State Tournament on Thursday night at Xcel Energy Center, falling 3-1 in a closely contested game. The Tigers showcased their resilience and defensive strength, significantly improving from their earlier season matchup against Edina, when illness-impacted Farmington fell 7-0 on December 12.
RECAP
Farmington played with tenacity, holding the Hornets scoreless through the opening period despite Edina's offensive pressure. The Tigers' defense, anchored by stellar goaltending from Addison Moudry, frustrated the Hornets and kept the game within reach.
Edina broke the scoreless tie in the second period, scoring at 5:41 on an even-strength goal by Cate McCoy. The Tigers continued to battle, limiting Edina's chances while looking for offensive opportunities of their own.
In the third period, Edina extended its lead at 6:22 with a power-play goal from Lorelai Nelson. Farmington responded with a power-play goal of its own at 8:19, as Taylor Risch found the back of the net off assists from Amelia Goblirsch and Payton Blom, cutting the deficit to 2-1. The Tigers pressed for the equalizer, but Edina sealed the game with an empty-net goal at 16:20, once again from McCoy.
