MSHSL State Wrestling Tournament: Day 1 Recap

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Four Farmington wrestlers took to the mats at the Xcel Energy Center on Day 1 of the MSHSL Class AAA State Wrestling Tournament, competing against the top talent in Minnesota. Tyler Chenevert (121), Blake Han-Lindemyer (127), Ethan Mangowi (139), and defending state champion Davis Parrow (145) each took to the mat representing FHS.

DAY 1 RESULTS

At 121 pounds, Tyler Chenevert opened his state tournament with a dominant tech fall victory at 4:55 over Robb from Owatonna. In the quarterfinals, he fell to Nichols of Edina by major decision, 12-4. Chenevert rebounded in the wrestlebacks with a 17-6 victory over Gau from Champlin Park, securing his spot in Day 2. The win also marked a milestone as Chenevert earned his 100th career victory as a Tiger.

At 127 pounds, Blake Han-Lindemyer fought hard but finished 0-2 on the day. He dropped his opening-round match in a 4-0 decision to Morin from Bemidji and fell in the consolation bracket to Bergeron of STMA by major decision, 8-0. The sophomore capped off an impressive season and will look to build on this experience for future success.

At 139 pounds, Ethan Mangowi also finished 0-2 in his state tournament debut. Mangowi fell to Strand from Bemidji, 9-0, in the first round and suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 decision loss to Williams in the wrestlebacks. The junior battled through injury all season and made an inspiring late-season run to qualify for state.

At 145 pounds, Davis Parrow remained unbeaten in his quest for back-to-back state titles. Parrow won the 2024 title at 139. The junior dominated his first-round opponent, pinning Johnson from Blaine at 3:48. In the quarterfinals, Parrow faced a familiar foe in Prouty from Apple Valley, whom he defeated in the section tournament. Parrow secured another commanding victory, winning by tech fall 21-4 to advance to the championship semifinals.

UP NEXT
The MSHSL Class AAA State Tournament resumes this morning at 9:00 a.m. with the consolation quarterfinals, semifinals, and championship semifinals. The girls' quarterfinals, championship semifinals, and consolation semifinals will also take place. The tournament concludes tonight with the third-place, fifth-place, and championship matches beginning at 4:00 p.m.
