FARMINGTON, Minn. – The top-seeded Farmington Tigers opened Section 1AAAA tournament play with an 8-0 victory over No. 8 seeded Rochester John Marshall on Tuesday night at Farmington High School. Behind a dominant performance in the circle from Schweich and a productive first inning at the plate, the Tigers advanced to the championship quarterfinals with the shutout win.
RECAP
Farmington wasted little time taking control, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Peterson sparked the offense with an RBI double before Leonard added an RBI single down the left field line. Harrison later drew a bases-loaded walk, and Fenton drove in another run on a groundout to give the Tigers an early advantage.
The Tigers continued to apply pressure throughout the game, finishing with eight runs on seven hits while drawing eight walks. Leonard led the middle of the lineup with a 2-for-4 performance and two RBIs. Reller paced the team with three walks as Farmington consistently worked deep counts and created scoring opportunities.
In the circle, Schweich delivered a commanding outing for the Tigers. The right-hander struck out 12 batters over seven shutout innings while allowing just two hits and no walks. John Marshall managed only singles from Baxter and Serr as Farmington's defense backed up the pitching effort with an error-free performance. Johannsen led the defensive effort with 14 chances in the field.
John Marshall pitcher Red Hill worked six innings for the Rockets, allowing eight runs, four earned, while striking out six.
