AUSTIN, Minn. – The top-seeded Farmington Tigers softball team advanced in the Section 1 Class 4A tournament Thursday evening with a 9-2 victory over the No. 5 seeded Lakeville North Panthers at Todd Park. Farmington used a balanced offensive attack and a complete-game performance from Kayla Schweich to secure a spot in the championship semifinal round.
RECAP
Farmington wasted little time taking control of the game in the opening inning. Addison Leonard gave the Tigers an early 2-0 lead with a home run to center field before the offense added three more runs in the second inning on RBI singles from Paige Fenton and Lila Johannsen.
The Tigers continued to build momentum in the third inning when Fenton delivered another RBI single down the left field line to extend the lead. Kayley Schuenemann added to the advantage in the fourth inning with a solo home run to left field.
Katelin Reller led the Tigers at the plate, collecting three hits in three at-bats, including a two-run home run in the sixth inning. Reller also added singles in the second and third innings as Farmington finished with 14 hits on the evening.
Schweich earned the complete-game victory in the circle, allowing four hits and two runs, one earned, while striking out five and walking none across seven innings.
Ashley Harrison paced the Tigers with four hits, while Fenton drove in three runs from the eighth spot in the lineup. Schuenemann and Reller each recorded multiple-hit performances as Farmington also turned a double play defensively.

Farmington advances to the Section 1 Class 4A championship semifinal on Tuesday, May 26, against No. 3 seeded Rochester Century at Todd Park in Austin, Minn. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. Rochester Century advanced after upsetting No. 2 seeded Lakeville South 3-1 in extra innings.
