Farmington, Minn. -- In a thrilling matchup at Farmington High School, the Tigers faced off against the Eagan Wildcats, emerging victorious with a resounding 7-0 win on what the team affectionately dubbed "Randy Day."
The Tigers softball program took time prior to the game to recognize former coach, Randy Schmitz, as Randy is in the middle of his battle with pancreatic cancer. Check out the MSHSL's John's Journal entry for the story.Â
The Tigers wasted no time asserting their dominance, scoring in the bottom of the 1st inning when H. Hansen singled, driving in Lila Johannsen for an early lead of 1-0.
In the bottom of the 2nd inning, the Tigers continued their offensive onslaught. Lexi Goring's single brought home Marissa Mittelstadt, extending the lead to 2-0. But it was Kam Hughes who truly stole the show with a powerful triple, driving in three runs and propelling the Tigers to a commanding 5-0 advantage.
Not content with just one extra-base hit, the Tigers kept the pressure on as Katie Klotz followed up with a double, bringing home Hughes and stretching the lead to 6-0. With two outs on the board, Leah Oistad capitalized on a Wildcats error, allowing Klotz to score and sealing the victory with a final score of 7-0.
It was a stellar team effort from the Tigers, with standout performances from players like Hughes and Klotz, whose extra-base hits helped secure the win. With this impressive display, the Tigers demonstrated their strength and determination as they celebrated "Randy Day" in style.
