Burnsville, Minn. -- In a commanding performance, the Tigers extended their winning streak to 12 games with a resounding 15-3 victory over the Burnsville Blaze.
Kam Hughes led the offensive charge, going 4-for-5 at the plate, including two doubles and two singles. Farmington got the scoreboard ticking in the second inning when
Peyton Boyd's walk and Hughes' double each drove in a run. Despite Burnsville briefly taking a 3-2 lead in the fourth, Farmington reclaimed control in the fifth inning, capitalizing on Blaze errors and
Marissa Mittelstadt's fielder's choice.
The Tigers exploded for five runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by hits from Hughes, Katie Klotz, Hannah Hansen, and Mittelstadt. They continued their offensive onslaught in the seventh, scoring six more runs with contributions from Hughes, Lila Johannsen, Klotz, Leah Oistad, Mittelstadt, and Kaydence Moe. On the mound, Kayla Schweich pitched a solid game for Farmington, allowing only three runs over seven innings while striking out six.
Farmington's offense was firing on all cylinders, amassing a total of 14 hits in the game. Mittelstadt and Klotz stood out with three RBIs each, while Hansen, Moe, and Johannsen contributed multiple hits. The Tigers also displayed discipline at the plate, drawing eight walks, with Lexi Goring and Klotz leading the team with two each. Goring showcased her speed with two stolen bases, adding to Farmington's dynamic performance.
Defensively, the Tigers were flawless, committing no errors throughout the game. Boyd led the team with six plays in the field, anchoring Farmington's strong defensive effort. For Burnsville, Kate Dam provided offensive spark with two RBIs, but it wasn't enough to overcome Farmington's dominant performance.
With this win, Farmington improves to an impressive 13-1 record and remains undefeated on the road this season. They now turn their attention to a challenging 3-game series in Mankato, where they'll face tough opponents in New Ulm and Benilde-St. Margaret's on Friday before taking on the Mankato East Cougars on Saturday morning.
