SOUTH ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Farmington Tigers capped off their impressive run in the South St. Paul Premier Tournament by defeating the Woodbury Royals 2-1 in a shootout to claim the championship at Doug Woog Arena. Jacob Miller netted the lone shootout goal to lift the Tigers to victory.
RECAP
The tightly contested championship matchup saw limited scoring but plenty of intensity. After a scoreless first period, Farmington broke through at 11:05 of the second when Evrett Bennett capitalized on a power play, assisted by Mason Rodgers and Kellen Conway.
Woodbury answered late in the period with an equalizer from Easton Talbot, sending the game into the third period tied at 1-1. Both teams tightened defensively in the final frame, with neither squad able to find the back of the net despite power-play opportunities.
In overtime, Farmington's penalty kill unit came up big, shutting down Woodbury's attack during the Royals' man advantage. When the extra session ended scoreless, the game was decided by a shootout, where Miller's decisive strike secured the Tigers' title.
Farmington goaltender Chris Bade was stellar, stopping 38 of 39 shots and all shootout attempts to anchor the Tigers' victory.
