FARMINGTON, Minn. – In a highly anticipated early-season clash between two of the top-ranked teams in the state, No. 2 Farmington fell to No. 3 Rosemount 4-2 on Tuesday night at Farmington High School. The Irish used timely hitting and solid pitching to edge the Tigers in a matchup that lived up to its billing.

Rosemount jumped out to a quick lead in the top of the first, capitalizing on a Farmington error to bring in the game's first run. The Irish added to their advantage in the third inning with back-to-back RBI singles from Kenzi Benson and Tessa Van Hemert, making it 3-0.
The Tigers got on the board in the fourth when Lila Johannsen drove in a run, and Madison Westover added another RBI later in the game to cut the deficit to 4-2. Despite several scoring chances and five walks drawn by the offense, Farmington was unable to close the gap.
Senior Kayla Schweich went the distance for the Tigers in the circle, striking out nine over seven innings while allowing seven hits and four runs—three of them earned.
At the plate, Kayley Schuenemann led Farmington with a 2-for-4 performance, while Ellie Peterson and Hannah Hansen each reached base twice via walk.
The loss moves Farmington to 3-1 on the season. The two teams split their season series in 2024 and are scheduled to meet again on May 7 at Rosemount High School in what should be another top-ranked Class AAAA clash.
