AUSTIN, Minn. – The No. 1 seeded Farmington Tigers secured a spot in the Section 1AAAA championship game with a 6-3 win over No. 2 seed Lakeville North on Tuesday afternoon at Todd Park. The Tigers used a pair of fourth-inning home runs to reclaim the lead and hold off the Panthers in a pivotal semifinal matchup.
RECAP
After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the second inning, Farmington responded in the bottom half when Kaydence Moe drove in the tying run on a fielder's choice and Kayley Schuenemann followed with a go-ahead RBI single to left field, putting the Tigers up 2-1.
Lakeville North briefly retook the lead in the fourth inning on a two-run burst that included a solo home run by Lydia Rosin and an unearned run following a Farmington error. But the Tigers answered immediately in the bottom half. Schuenemann launched a solo shot to left to tie the game, and Lila Johannsen followed with a go-ahead homer to center, giving Farmington a 5-3 advantage.
Farmington added an insurance run in the fifth and closed the game behind a complete-game effort from senior pitcher Kayla Schweich. The right-hander allowed nine hits but limited damage with timely outs, finishing with two strikeouts and just one walk across seven innings.
