LAKEVILLE, Minn. – The Farmington Tigers are heading back to the state tournament. Behind a dominant performance from pitcher Kayla Schweich and an early offensive surge, the Tigers defeated Lakeville North 10-1 in the Section 1AAAA championship game on Thursday afternoon at Lakeville South High School.
RECAP
Farmington took control early with a six-run outburst in the bottom of the second inning. The scoring began when Hannah Hansen drew a bases-loaded walk. Lexi Goring followed with an RBI single, and Kayley Schuenemann grounded into a fielder's choice that brought home another run. Lila Johannsen delivered the big swing of the inning with a two-run single, and Ellie Peterson capped it off with an RBI base hit to make it 6-0.
The Tigers continued to apply pressure throughout the game, adding insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Madison Westover provided the final highlight with a solo home run to left field in the sixth, her third hit of the game.
In the circle, Schweich was in command all afternoon. The senior struck out 11 batters and allowed just one run over seven innings, scattering 10 hits and walking two. She received strong support from a defense that played error-free behind her.

With the win, Farmington claims the Section 1AAAA championship and advances to the MSHSL Class AAAA State Softball Tournament. State tournament seeding will be announced on Friday, May 31.
