MANKATO, Minn. – The No. 3 seeded Farmington Tigers bounced back in the Class AAAA state tournament with a 6-1 win over No. 7 seed Eagan in Wednesday's consolation semifinal at Caswell Park. With the victory, the Tigers advance to the consolation championship game and will face No. 8 seed Edina at 10:00 a.m. Thursday morning, again at Caswell Park.
RECAP
Farmington broke a scoreless tie in the third inning with two runs. Kayley Schuenemann opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly, followed by a run-scoring single down the right field line from Lila Johannsen to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead.
The Tigers added four more runs throughout the middle innings, capitalizing on timely hitting and aggressive baserunning. Schuenemann finished with two RBIs, while Lexi Goring, Hannah Hansen, and Leah Oistad each tallied two hits. Goring also swiped two bases to help fuel the offense.
In the circle, Olivia Peterson went the distance, scattering seven hits over seven innings while allowing just one run. She struck out three and walked only one, keeping Eagan's offense off balance and preventing any extended rallies.
Farmington played error-free defense for the second straight game, with Johannsen recording a team-high six chances in the field.
