MANKATO, Minn. – A late-inning home run proved costly as the No. 3 seeded Farmington Tigers dropped a 3-1 decision to No. 6 seed White Bear Lake in the MSHSL Class AAAA state tournament quarterfinals on Wednesday morning at Caswell Park.
RECAP
Farmington trailed early after White Bear Lake struck in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by Lauren Simmons. The Tigers battled back and tied the game in the bottom of the sixth when Ellie Peterson doubled down the left field line, scoring a run to even the score at 1-1.
However, in the top of the seventh, White Bear Lake's Kendall Kotzmacher delivered the game-changing hit with a two-run home run to left field, giving the Bears a 3-1 lead they would not relinquish.
Kayla Schweich pitched a complete game for Farmington, allowing three runs (two earned) on nine hits while striking out six and walking none. The Tigers offense collected six hits but couldn't break through against White Bear Lake starter Lilly Martin, who struck out 18 in a dominant performance.
Lexi Goring and Madison Westover each recorded two hits to lead the Tigers at the plate. Peterson drove in the team's lone run with her sixth-inning double.

Farmington will face Eagan in the consolation semifinals at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. The Tigers and Wildcats are familiar opponents from South Suburban Conference play.
