Farmington football ushered in the new season with a convincing 28-9 win over the visiting Burnsville Blaze.
Â
After a scoreless first quarter, Burnsville punted from their own endzone and
Jonathan Shrum took it to the house from forty five yards out on the first play of the new quarter. He then took the snap at QB for the ensuing two point attempt and converted it with a pass to
Brock Wyandt.
Â
Zach Dahl and the bulky front seven of the Tigers helped keep the Blaze without a first down the entire first quarter. Shrum scored another touchdown from one yard out, taking the snap and tumbling into the endzone. The extra point made it 15-0 and it remained so heading into halftime.
Â
Matt Kuchera took a counter 45 yards inside the five yard line where Shrum eventually took it in again on the ground for a four yard rushing score, his third total touchdown of the game. Tigers led 22-0.
Â
Sophomore QB
Jonah Ask capped off the scoring with a three yard rushing scamper, but they missed the extra point. 28-0.
Â
Burnsville avoided the shutout by blocking a punt in the Tiger endzone and falling on it for six. They too missed the extra point. However, they did end the game with a 38 yard field goal at the buzzer.
Â
Farmington finished off the Blaze behind excellent defense, 28-9.
