Farmington, Minn. -- It was the game of the year in Farmington on Thursday as the Tigers rallied to an insane 34-33 comeback win in overtime.
The Tigers marched down the field on their opening possession of Senior Night and scored on a six-yard handoff to
Brock Wyandt. After failing on the two-point conversion, the Cardinals marched down the field themselves on the ensuing drive and kicked the extra point to take the lead.
The Tigers decided to forego a 37-yard field goal try and instead turned it over on downs after a pass on 4 th & 14 was incomplete through the back of the endzone. Coon Rapids scored their second touchdown of the evening and led 14-6, heading into halftime.
After forcing a punt to open up the second half,
Jonah Ask took a broken play on third and 14 all the way to the house from 61 yards out. The Tigers failed on the 2pt conversion. Coon Rapids extended their lead to nine after a touchdown and extra point. Farmington answered on a 1-yard touchdown from
Jeffrey Branson. Trailing 21-19, the Cardinals would score a touchdown, but miss the PAT attempt to keep the Tigers in the ballgame. Ask chucked a ball deep down the middle of the field and found his
play maker Wyandt for a 45-yard touchdown.
Ask converted the two-point conversion and we were all tied at 27.
Heading into overtime, the Tigers won the toss and opted to start on offense, scoring on their first play behind a 10-yard touchdown run from Branson.
Coon Rapids answered the touchdown on their turn, but tried to win it by going for two.
Kingsley Obikwelu provided the game-winning coverage that helped break up what would have been the game-winning pitch and catch. Incomplete pass.
The Tigers escape on Senior Night with the win and end the regular season on a three-game winning streak.
